I loved this whole trip but what made it even more special was the music. There were plenty of times where the people of Jamaica performed for us and we got the opportunity to join in. I would say music is a big part of Jamaica. I have memories of our host, Mr. Brown, breaking out randomly in song. I even came back home with new songs that I heard there on the radio. When we started back with classes at Agnes we got the chance to learn more about the history of the different types of music that we heard like Calypso and Reggae.
The skills that I have cultivated and expanded while visiting Jamaica have helped me to hone my talents in being a Center for Digital and Visual Learning Tutor. I am confident that these skills will stick with me forever and I have been using them and will continue to use them to tackle the ever-occurring hurdles of life.
Since I am a music major I really enjoyed the different types of music and getting to perform the different types in collaboration with our hosts. I am now able to compare and contrast the musical genres of the Jamaican culture and evaluate certain elements of other performances.
